Other works in my collection:

A wonderful Graham Nolan Bane - presented to me over breakfast.

An interesting look at how the esteemed Mr. Chaykin works.

A really rather lovely Combat Colin by Lew Stringer. Based on my boss at The Place?!

My first chance to ink Steve Epting.  He must have liked it as we worked together many times again.

A page by Michael Gaydos from the magnificent Inferno.

When we shared a studio a new holiday tradition was established.  That of Butchmas.  Every day of December until Christmas it was determined (by himself, I believe) that Butch Guice would buy a present for himself.

Everyone should have a Butchmas.....but until that time here are some Butch pages from my own collection...

I take a considerable amount of joy in all the commissions I illustrate.  They're a chance to, at times, tackle characters I don't usually receive the opportunity to play with and the results are almost always very rewarding.  All of them are a breath of fresh air....and I always jump with excitement when someone commissions a 2000ad character.  I've been waiting a loooong time to receive a Johnny Alpha Strontium Dog commission!

This one's actually based on a cover design I produced for House of M:Avengers #3 ( that particular one featuring the Punisher) as it was a particular favourite of the commissionee...

November is here - time to get some new commission posts up.  I'm going to have to scroll through the previous posts to remind me what I've put up here before ...but for now I'll be contributing some of the illustrations I completed over the summer:

Saturday, May 19, 2012

I was asked to develop the layouts for 20 interconnecting Spider-Man variant covers showing key moments from his history over the last 50 years of web-slinging.  Here are the rough layouts:

(click on the illustrations for a slide show)

...and then I was asked to illustrate three of the bottom tier (which happens to be the earliest appearances) :

...which were then stunningly coloured by Mr. Frank D'Armata....

...after which I was commissioned to ink the Sean Chen piece...

...and now here's the final versions:

R.I.P. Tony DeZuniga

I guess I first, conciously, came across Tony DeZuniga's work from reprints of H.G Wells comics in Marvel UK titles ( Captain Britain, perhaps) and have always admired his craftmanship.  I was lucky enough to be sharing a studio with Butch Guice when he requested Mr. DeZuniga's embellishments on one of his Aquaman issues so I was lucky enough to see the wondrous ink work as soon as it was finished...and, in fact, I own an absolutely gorgeous page :

My thoughts and compassion are with Mr. DeZuniga's family and friends.
